why recycle printer cartridges

Printer Cartridge Recycling Detail

1) When printer cartridges arrive at the Recycool recovery centre they are quality checked for damage and usability and, where possible, damaged cartridges are salvaged for parts.

2) Cartridges which pass the quality checks are separated based on make, model and condition. Once sorted and segregated they are then packaged ready for sale to remanufacturers for processing.

3) Printer cartridge remanufacturers put the cartridges through stringent quality checks to ensure that they achieve a level of quality as good as, or sometimes better than, the original equipment manufacturer. In most cases this involves breaking down the cartridges into their main components.

4) These components are then inspected to ensure damaged or worn parts are replaced. The cartridges are then reassembled, filled with the specified ink, pressurised, machine tested for quality, taped, sealed and packaged and then resold as a remanufactured product through various outlets such as office supply shops, online computer and retail shops.

5) For the remanufacturing industry recycling used printer cartridges into new products is difficult for a number of reasons. As of yet there isn't an industry wide recycling solution available. However research is ongoing in this area, and a number of organisations are now researching and developing technology that may be able to break down large volumes of printer cartridges into basic components for reuse as raw materials in other products and markets.
